The Lehigh Valley Railroad and the Anthracite Coal Industry, 1852 to 1902
National Museum of Industrial History 602 East Second Street, BethlehemDr. John Smith, Lehigh University's Department of History Professor Emeritus, will present, Lehigh Valley Railroad and the Anthracite Industry, on Jan. 14 at 1pm. Dr. Smith will trace the evolution of the LVRR from a regional railroad to being part of a national network.

Metal Melting for Kids

President Pumping Engine with Mark Connar
National Museum of Industrial History 602 East Second Street, BethlehemIn 1872, one of the world’s largest stationary engines was put into operation just south of Bethlehem, PA at the Friedensville Zinc Mines. Today, the massive stone Cornish engine house still remains. Mark Connar will tell us how he dove into the President Pump’s history and is working with the township, property owner, and a larger coalition to preserve the site and its industrial heritage.
