Over the Mountain Lecture
January 18, 2026 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Photographer, educator, and visual historian Michael Froio will present Over the Mountain at the National Museum of Industrial History as part of the museum’s annual Anthracite Mining Heritage Month series. Drawing on more than two decades of experience documenting America’s industrial and built landscapes through large-format and digital photography, Froio will explore his ongoing project focused on Pennsylvania’s Anthracite Coal Regio, a place shaped by generations of extraction, labor, and reclamation. Through detailed fieldwork and visually rich imagery, the lecture examines the evolving relationship between industry and community, revealing a landscape marked by memory, loss, and renewal.
